IPOH, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Customs Field Operations Combat Team (COBRA) continues to strengthen efforts against smuggling, recording seizures exceeding RM312.4 million as of October this year.
Customs director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin said the seizures comprised RM31.5 million in drug cases, RM267.1 million in cigarettes and liquor and over RM13.8 million in various smuggled goods.
“This achievement reinforces COBRA’s role as a high-impact tactical asset in combating smuggling and curbing national revenue leakage,” she said at the COBRA nucleus team beret presentation and commissioning ceremony at the General Operations Force (GOF) Training Centre in Ulu Kinta here today.
The event began with a combat capability demonstration, including bodyguarding, tactical shooting and Close-Quarter Battle (CQB), before continuing with the beret presentation to the COBRA nucleus team by Anis Rizana.
Anis Rizana said all COBRA members are expected to continue upholding discipline, integrity and professionalism to protect the country’s economy and sovereignty.
Speaking about the ceremony, Anis Rizana said 22 officers from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) completed 60 days of intensive training after passing a rigorous selection process involving 175 candidates nationwide.
She said the training covered physical and mental endurance, firearms skills, rappelling, abseiling, CQB, and various real-life operational simulations.
“I also wish to express my gratitude to the police, particularly the GOF Training Centre, 69 Commando, and the Special Action Unit (UTK) for their close cooperation, guidance, and support in shaping the COBRA team to achieve high levels of readiness and combat capability.
“The synergy between JKDM and the police represents the strength of national security through strategic collaboration among enforcement agencies,” she said.
