KANGAR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 23 kilogrammes (kg) of cannabis flowers believed to be smuggled into the country with an estimated value of RM690,000 at the Malaysia-Thailand border area in Padang Besar at 5 am today.
GOF North Brigade Commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said the seizure was made by a GOF team who managed to detect movement based on infromation gleaned from closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage.
"Checks of the surrounding areas led to the discovery of a colourful sack containing dried leaves believed to be cannabis flowers,” he said in a statement today, adding that the sack was handed over to the Padang Besar district police headquarters narcotics crime investigation department for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Further investigation by the GOF 18th Battalion’s intelligence branch was still ongoing to locate individuals or syndicate engaged in drug smuggling in the area of Padang Besar, he added.
