1,000 Indonesian Nationals, Migrant Workers Repatriated Through Programme M

JOHOR BAHRU, 21 July (Bernama) -- A total of 1,000 Indonesian nationals and migrant workers who were in immigration detention in Peninsular Malaysia have been repatriated to their home country through Programme M, a collaborative initiative between the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and the Representative Office of the Republic of Indonesia in Peninsular Malaysia.

Leny Marliani, consular function officer 2 at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru, said this number was achieved through several phases of delivery under the programme, with an overall target of 7,200 people within two years.

Meanwhile, the total number of Indonesian nationals repatriated by the Johor Bahru KJRI reached 3,456 as of today," he said in a statement today.

Previously, a total of 232 Indonesian nationals and migrant workers who were detained were repatriated today through the management of the Johor Bahru KJRI in collaboration with the JIM, via the Pasir Gudang Ferry Terminal using two separate ferries heading to Batam Centre Port, Batam in Riau Islands.

The first group, comprising 83 individuals (61 men, 16 women, four boys and two girls), departed at 10 am, while the second group, departed an hour later, and included 149 individuals (124 men, 21 women, three boys and one girl).

Of those numbers, 83 were detained at the Kemayan Immigration Detention Depot in Pahang, while the remaining 149 were held at the Putrajaya JIM.

Leny Marliani also advised all Indonesian nationals to comply with Malaysian laws and to ensure they have valid travel documents.
