KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade detained 335 foreign nationals following 38 raids conducted under Ops Taring Nyah 1 from January until today.
GOF Central Brigade commander SAC Hakemal Hawari said of the total, 237 were adult men, 96 were adult women while two were boys.
In the same operation, 37 land and sea migrant smugglers were also detained, comprising five local men, 31 Indonesians including two women, and one Myanmar man.
“All those detained are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
“Also seized during the operation were 20 vehicles, three boats and 57 mobile phones as well as other items, with the total value of the seizures amounting to RM1.6 million,” he said in a statement here today.
Hakemal said the operation was conducted to strengthen security control in the country’s waters and curb attempts by illegal immigrants to enter the country.
Meanwhile, during the same period, the GOF Central Brigade also carried out 159 raids under Ops Taring Alpha, Ops Taring Bravo, Ops Taring Charlie, Ops Taring Delta, Ops Hazard, Ops Mitra, Integrated Khazanah Operations (OBK), Ops Palma and Ops Intra/Inter Agency.
He said the operations conducted around Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor led to the detention of 551 individuals for various offences.
