PM Anwar Praises MAF's Resilience In Protecting Country's Waters

KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the steadfastness, courage and readiness of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) in defending every inch of the country's waters from any threat as a symbol of immense sacrifice.

In a Facebook post, he said the sacrifices of the troops serving in the country's border areas are the main bulwark that ensures the people of this country continue to live in peace and tranquility.

"This morning I continued my working visit by visiting Pulau Banggi, Sabah after the ASEAN Summit in the Philippines. I went to Pos Dogoton to review the level of readiness in the Malaysia-Philippines border area.

"Pos Dogoton, is among the forward security posts bordering Philippine waters which plays an important role in maintaining the sovereignty and security of the country's waters in northern Sabah. This includes controlling the threat of invasion, smuggling and cross-border criminal activities,” he said.

Anwar said he was also given a briefing on the implementation of operations at the post before being taken to inspect the nearby archipelago and the operation of radar, which is an important asset for monitoring security in the area.

“Being assigned to a remote area with challenging terrain and weather conditions demands mental endurance, discipline and high fighting spirit in the team. Highest appreciation to the MAF team assigned to safeguard the sovereignty of the homeland at Pos Dogoton,” he said.

Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, arrived in Sabah last night for a working visit.
