JOHOR BAHRU, April 9 (Bernama) -- The Immigration Department (JIM) busted an illegal foreign settlement with the arrest of 40 individuals for various offences at a residence in Kampung Baru Muafakat here just after midnight last night.
Johor JIM director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said those detained in the 12.20 am raid comprised 31 Pakistani men, three Myanmar men, two Myanmar women, a Myanmar boy, two Indonesian women and an Indonesian girl, aged between two and 59.
“All of them were resting in a squatter house with many rooms that had been used as a living quarters for the past two months when Ops Sapu was carried out,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Rusdi said some of them attempted to evade inspection by fleeing and hiding in rooms, but were apprehended by enforcement officers.
He said checks found that the undocumented migrants did not possess valid travel documents and had overstayed.
All those detained are believed to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation and action.
