10,000 PDRM Personnel To Be Deployed For 17th Sabah State Election Security

TAWAU, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Approximately 10,000 personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be deployed during the 17th Sabah state election to ensure the security and smooth conduct of the democratic process, from nomination day on Nov 15 to polling day on Nov 29.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that the Sarawak Police Contingent would also be mobilised if additional resources were needed during the election period.

“We have issued a directive to freeze all leave, except for those specifically approved, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. I have received a briefing from Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun on the police force's preparedness," he said.

"This includes training, especially in managing ballot box security and monitoring remote areas.

“We have conducted simulations and coordinated briefings with other agencies to ensure preparedness," he told the media following his attendance at a Home Ministry’s (KDN) MADANI Programme at Merotai Besar Open Hall here today.

Saifuddin Nasution further emphasised that the role of the police extends beyond maintaining voter security - their goal is to ensure that the election is seen as a celebration of democracy.

"Voters should feel confident in fulfilling their civic duties without concerns about safety, threats, or intimidation. Ensuring this is the police's fundamental responsibility," he said.

He also highlighted that the KDN MADANI: Inspirasi Malaysia initiative is a monthly outreach programme, allowing agencies under KDN to directly engage with the public, particularly in rural areas.

"During discussions about the role of the police, I also addressed the rising threat of online fraud, which has become a growing concern. Numerous victims, including police officers, engineers, and even pilots, have suffered significant financial losses due to these scams," he added.

Saifuddin Nasution added that the ministry had visited several villages, including Kampung Kijang, to distribute allocations aimed at enhancing local infrastructure such as mosques, schools, and recreational areas.

A total of RM1 million has been allocated through the Border Control and Protection Agency as part of the MADANI Programme.
