GOMBAK, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Police arrested five individuals, including a married couple, on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking activities during separate raids around Gombak and Wangsa Maju on Monday (Oct 13) and Tuesday (Oct 14).

The couple was arrested in a terrace house around Batu Caves, Selangor and police discovered 197 plastic packets believed to be filled with 200 kilogrammes (kg) of ketamine and 121 plastic bags of methamphetamine weighing 125kg, with the total amount valued at an estimated RM14 million.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that following the arrest, police then nabbed three men at the parking area of a condominium around Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.

"Preliminary investigation found that the man arrested in Batu Caves, Selangor, acted as the storekeeper while the woman involved is his wife; another man acted as the coordinator; while two other men arrested were accomplices of the syndicate,” he told a media conference here today.

Hussein said they also found that the syndicate, which has been active since early this year, obtained its drug supply from a neighbouring country and used houses in the Klang Valley as storage before distributing them to the local markets.

He added that the drugs are believed to have been brought in through land routes and they are still investigating whether the banned substances were brought in through main roads or 'rat lanes’.

"They are believed to have distributed drugs to syndicates around the Klang Valley,” he said.

In the raids, Hussein sadi police also seized six different types of vehicles and jewellery valued at an estimated RM300,000.

"All those arrested tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal records. They have been remanded for seven days until Oct 20,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
