WASHINGTON, July 18 (Bernama-dpa) -- The United States (US) President Donald Trump on Thursday directed the Attorney General to produce "pertinent" testimony tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s case, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
"Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
"This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!"
Moments later, Bondi responded on X, writing that the Justice Department was "ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts."
During his presidential election campaign last year, Trump promised to release files relating to the disgraced financier, who died in 2019 in a New York prison cell in what was officially labelled a suicide.
Epstein's death led to wild speculation, especially in right-wing circles of the US, despite official findings, because the financier had excellent contacts in the country’s high society.
Last week, the FBI reaffirmed Epstein's death was suicide and said no evidence implicated other high-profile individuals or pointed to a "list" of powerful clients.
