IPOH, July 16 -- Twenty-seven foreigners were detained after officials from the Malaysian Immigration Department cordoned off three factory areas and a restaurant in raids conducted under “Op Patuh” here yesterday.
Perak Immigration director Hapdzan Husaini said the raids were conducted between 9.30 am and 2 pm following intelligence work by the department and from public tip-offs at the factories in Bandar Lahat Baru, Pinji Estate and Pengkalan II Pusing Industrial Area, while the restaurant is at Bandar Sri Pengkalan, Pusing.
Following the raids, 74 individuals were inspected, with 27 of them, all men, detained and they comprised 18 Bangladeshi nationals, four Indonesians, four Myanmarese and a Pakistani. They are aged between 30 and 52, he said in a statement today.
He said they were arrested for not having valid travel documents and work permit.
